Beyoncé is back! 7 years have gone by since her last studio album, Lemonade and we can finally listen to new music from the queen herself. Renaissance was released on July 29th , and Beyoncé has become the first woman to have all her solo albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200 list. Renaissance has also become the year’s biggest debut by a woman as the charts have been filled with songs from Harry Styles and Bad Bunny, the two biggest albums released this year.
This should come as no surprise as Beyoncé has become an iconic figure in the world of music. Beyoncé rose to fame as the lead singer for
Destiny ‘s Child in the late 1990s. During a hiatus period, she released her debut album, Dangerously In Love, where she had two
number one singles. Soon after Destiny’s Child parted ways, she released her second album, B’Day and starred in multiple films. In 2011 she released her fourth studio album, 4, followed by Beyoncé in 2013 and Lemonade in 2016. Her last album, Lemonade, was the world’s best-selling album in 2016.
Beyoncé is known to experiment with her albums, evolving from her previous ones, yet still pouring the same amount of love and passion into every album she creates. Renaissance is no different. With Renaissance, Beyoncé wants her audience to feel unique, strong and sexy as they listen to the songs. It is a love letter to the queer Black community and its culture which stems from Beyoncé being an outspoken advocate in supporting them. It combines different genres
together such as R&B, pop and rap, creating an album that is fun, with stellar voices and beats that come together to create a beautifully crafted album.
This past weekend, Beyoncé hosted a secret release party in New York City to celebrate not only Renaissance’s release but its number one debut on the Billboard 200 charts. The party was jam packed with celebrities such as Donald Glover, Chloe Bailey, Janelle Monae and Kendrick Lamar. Beyoncé wanted to use this time to thank her team, collaborators and musicians, composers and anyone else involved in the album for their dedication, time and commitment in creating 2022’s newest masterpiece.
Renaissance is only part one of what she has in store for us. When looking on her website, Act One: Renaissance is clearly visible which means that we should expect to hear from her very soon. Two parts remain and just like Renaissance and Lemonade, Beyoncé is keeping them locked away until they are ready to be released.
